Canada's Red Room
Today the Prime Minister of this country in an effort to score some brownie points with the Canadian public suggested that this nation would be better served with an elected senate.
I am certain that this will never ever pass. The prime reason being, is that Gilles is on the verge of toppling the current minority government.
Ok….. but let’s pretend, elect or appoint ? elect or appoint ? Here’s a thought ILLIMINATE !

The Canadian Senate currently has no real power. An elected Senate would only serve to keep a majority government in check.
After what Harper pulled last week with his so-called bid to re-open the same-sex marriage issue, he may have lost enough of the Evangelical support that helped to elect him to allow the Liberals a majority soon enough. Then an elected Senate could make good sense.
If they have no real power, why are we spending money on them?
Exactly the question I believe Harper is trying to address by attempting introduce reform. Just another idea, good or bad, of his that is doomed for failure.
