A Fresh Groaner

One day my housework-challenged husband decided to wash his sweatshirt. Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me, "What setting do I use on the washing machine?" "It depends," I replied. "What does it say on your shirt?" He yelled back, "University of Oklahoma."

Simpler Times

It’s four twenty-three in the morning. Try as I have I am unable to sleep. I’ve poured myself a glass of pop and decided to visit my good friend......... my computer. As usual I opened my Email to check my correspondence etc, etc. It was then when I saw the date November 22nd. Like a switched on light I realized that it was forty-three years ago today that John F Kennedy was assassinated. I am sure I posed this question this time last year, but do you remember where you were?

We Shall Not Sleep, Though Poppies Grow.....

When we look a Remembrance Day Services at this time of year we see the faces of the old. Old men with wrinkled faces, old ladies who can barely or not walk at all fill our TV screens & newspapers.

I think although we see faces weathered with age, elderly who gimp, they were once young. They didn’t ask why they were going to war, and probably didn’t consider some wouldn’t return. Some even lied about their age so they could go. Would that happen today, I think not.

Some came home without their friends (remember they were probably in their 20’s) They cried now and they cry today.

Imagine if you best friend died tonight. Would you cry of course you would? Would you cry in forty years, the good Lord willing of course you would.

The men and women who are still with us, who wear the poppy, who tear with saluted pride, ask little. They ask that we take time and remember, not them, but their friends who didn’t return with them.

Take two minutes on the 11th at eleven o’clock. Look at that poppy, and yes the wetness on your cheek ……………is a tear.

Count Down to the 11th

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army
IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Of Course I Remeber How to Laugh

An older Jewish lady is invited to a high mass by her friend. She was delighted to accept the invitation, because she had never been to a mass before. So the two women, dressed in their finest, went to the high mass.

A visiting Bishop was vested in his robes and cassock ready to process at the beginning of the service. His robe was very ornate, and he was swinging the incense pot which had smoke rising from it.

The Jewish lady, sitting directly on the aisle, touched the Bishop on his shoulder as he passed her seat, and innocently said... "Darling I love your outfit, but your purse is on fire!"

Another Candle Lit

Well good on us.!!!!

Blessed are the Children

I would like to thank Dominos for stepping up to the plate.
This week end in conjunction with CJAD radio the Missing Children’s Network is holding a fund raising telethon. This is the main fund raiser for the organization and CJAD will broadcast from The Fairview Shopping Center all day Saturday.
Now back to Dominos Pizza. Today and tomorrow Dominos will donate 1$ from every pizza sold to the “Network” Kudos to you Dominos.
So why not order pizza tonight, Dominos deserves it, the kids need it.

Deal or .....

Ok, (head bowed in shame) my second favorite show on TV is Deal or no Deal. For those of you who know the show you are familiar with the premise. For those of you not familiar with the broadcast, well as simple as the rules are they are too lengthy to list here. Ok the best thing about the show is that NBC had to go to a Canadian (Howie Mandall)to host the show. The second best is that the rules give in that no great knowledge is required to win, the only ingredient, needed is heaps and heaps of intestinal fortitude. (try not to pee your undies)
Alright for those of you who know the show my case is number fourteen. Tonight that case was worth 50,000$ not bad huh?
Tonight we learned that Deal or No Deal is coming to Canada, probably in the center of the universe…… Toronto I guess the question here begs, are we playing for Canadian Loonies or Uncle Sam green backs ( although the exchange is getting close)

Pumkins Down, Elves Up

A few days ago with little warning the shopping centre where I work started putting up the Christmas decorations. This is a huge undertaking. It involves the use of ladders boom cranes, and harnesses as well as many many man hours. From what I understand the entire operation takes at least one month. Now while I comprehend the enormity of the task I find it intrinsically wrong to put up Christmas decoration before Remembrance Day. Now the fat guy doesn’t come till November 27th so maybe we could wait a little later and hold back on the extravaganza that we have put on this holiday.
